Minor Irrigation Department

Introduction

Zilla Parishad, Wardha is the headquarters of Minor Irrigation Department,Wardha and has sub-divisions at Wardha, Arvi, and Hinganghat . Arvi , Ashti, and Karanja talukas are in the juriduction of Arvi sub Division. Wardha, Deoli , seloo talukas are in the juriduction of Wardha sub Division. Hinganghat and Samudrapur talukas are in the juriduction of Hinganghat sub Division.

Under this Department, Irrigation structures of 0 to 100 hactor capacity like Minor Irrigation Tank, Percolation Tank, Village Tank, Storage Tank, Kolhapur Type Weir, Storage Bandhara, Cement Nallabandh and lift irrigation schemes are constructed and their maintainance has been done. The tanks are allocated to local fishermen and their co-operative societies for the purpose of fishery of 0 to 100 hactor capacity sThere are a total of 765 individual water supply schemes in Wardha district and a total of 9 regional water supply schemes are operatinal through the Zilla Parishad. There are a total of 4883 hand pumps and 51 electric pumps working in the district.

Vision and Mission

Objectives:-

To conserve more and more water within village boundry area.
To increase ground water level.
To increase irrigation potential or the district by providing protective irrigation for agriculture purpose and to increase efficiency by using water efficiently.
To restore water storage capacity of existing and different water sources storage bandharas/village tanks/ percolation tanks/cement nallas bandharas).
Encouraging people / increasing public participation regarding water conservation and water percolation.
To remove slit from existing water sources by public participation and to increase water storage or water sources.

Objectives and Functions

Objective:-

Most of the population of India lives in rural areas. The Minor Irrigation Department has been set up to provide direct and indirect facility for the Irrigation of cultivators to the people of rural areas.

Function:-

Implementation of various water conservation schemes through Minor Irrigation Department.
To construct various water conservation schemes to raise the water table in the district.
Active participation in the government’s ground water conservation and resource strengthening activities.
