First of all in 1986, the Central Sponsored Rural Cleanliness Program was started in 1986. This first event, which is associated with cleanliness, was mainly started with the purpose of improving the quality of life of the rural people. In the 1991 census, toilet statistics in the first house were collected. At that time, the ratio was found to be frustrating in the countryside. The Central Government has launched an area improvement pilot program in 67 districts across the country in 1999. This was the idea of what could be learned from the proposed demanding method. Four districts were selected from Maharashtra for this. From 1986 to 1999, necessary changes were made to the policy of this program. Today, the program is “not based on the goal but that demand is based”.
The emphasis was on information, education and dialogue, human resource development, capacity raising programs through the entire sanitation campaign from 1999 to raise awareness of health awareness among the people of rural areas and to create demand for sanitation facilities. The entire sanitation campaign launched by the Central Government was started in Wardha district in 2004 from 2004 to 2014 to 2014, from the 513 Gram Panchayat Nirmal Gram Award, which was included in the 10 districts of the state, which included 100% of the state. In 2016, 100 percent of the district was declared as a free free.By ensuring complete hygiene to raise awareness of cleanliness.
